St. John Neumann Regional School receives STEM grant

St. John Neumann Regional School received a science, technology, engineering and mathematics grant from area gas station Exxon Mobil in Kresgeville.

According to Patrick McGinley, territory sales manager of Alliance Energy, the Exxon Mobil Educational Alliance Program gives grant money to qualified grade schools, sometimes high schools, to help develop the STEM program.The grant provides opportunities for the teachers to fund STEM classroom projects.The award ceremony was held at the school's Palmerton campus, at which time Sunil Patel, owner of Exxon Mobil in Kresgeville, awarded a $500 check to school Principal Sister Virginia Stephanie, student council officers, and math teacher Kate Kern.The grant money will be used for the STEM Challenge Club.The focus of the project will be on structures which include art, building and design. Each project is a creativity challenge to engage thinking skills and teamwork.Julia Dougherty, a certified physics and biology teacher, will lead the club.This was the second year Patel nominated St. John Neumann to receive the grant.Last year, the grant money was used to purchase graphing calculators.
