Three bridges in Chestnuthill Township are on the schedule to be replaced this year.
The bridge on Route 715 over the McMichaels Creek will be closed for construction for 10 weeks beginning in June and is expected to reopen to traffic in August. The detour will take travelers mainly along Route 115.The second bridge in Chestnuthill is on Merwinsburg Road over the Pohopoco Creek. It is the grate bridge just beyond the bridge that was recently replaced.Work will begin in May and run through July. The detour will also run mainly along Route 115.The third bridge in Chestnuthill is along Sugar Hollow Road over Sugar Hollow Creek. This is expected to be the shortest of the projects, running from May to June. The 5-mile detour will also run mainly along Route 115.The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has entered into a public/private partnership with Plenary Walsh to replace 558 bridges across the state in the next three years.The new designs are standardized and utilize the same materials and specifications. Each bridge is designed to last 100 years, and the partnership is giving the state a 25-year guarantee on the bridges.To date, 50 bridges have been completed.Rory McGlasson, Public Information Coordinator for the Eastern Region, said the projects are ahead of schedule.
