At the April 11 meeting of the Palmerton Area Historical Society, Kathy Long will speak about Hess's. Long was the first secretary of the then-Lehigh Gap Historical Society and designer of its logo. Her talk begins at 7 p.m. in the Knight's Gallery (second floor) of the Palmerton Library. The meeting is free and open to the public.Heritage CenterThe Palmerton Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Ave., continues its exhibit of memorabilia of Stephen S. Palmer, president of the New Jersey Zinc Company when Palmerton was founded and named for him in 1898.Many of the items on display were collected by the late Warren Siegmond and were made available to the historical society by his widow.The center is open various hours from Wednesday through Saturday each week. Call 610-824-6954 for a recording listing the times each day, or try the door. If it is unlocked, someone is present who can show you around. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.Senior CenterThe Palmerton Senior Center, 501 Delaware Ave. (Ambulance Building), serves lunch daily at 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. For lunch reservations call the day before by 9:30 a.m.Activities include pinochle, penny games and bingo. From 7-8 p.m. on Mondays, Al-Anon Family Group/Serenity Seekers meets at Salem United Methodist Church, 4145 Forest Inn Road in Palmerton. Call 484-477-9697 for more information.Alateen support group for teens of family struggling with alcohol meets at Faith Alive United Methodist Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton (Bowmanstown), from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Adult Al-Anon and AA meetings take place at the same time. For more information call 484-221-1026.Food For FinesDuring the month of April at the Palmerton Area Library you may donate one nonperishable food item in place of each dollar fine owed. Eliminate all fines and feed the hungry at the same time. All donated food items will be given to the CACPAC food pantry in Palmerton.Community mealA free community meal will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton, from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 12. All are invited to join together for food and fellowship.Paws of HopePaws of Hope, kids read to dogs, will be held at the Palmerton Area Library, 402 Delaware Ave., from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday. This is free but parents must preregister their children for a time slot. Call 610-826-3424.World Relief QuiltersThe Lutheran World Relief Quilters at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton have been hard at work cutting, sewing and tying the quilts.The group is looking for donations of sheets, double or larger flat sheets work the best, to use for knotted quilts. The quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief, which distributes them to truly needy families.The group is always looking for new people who like to sew, cut or tie. All the work is done at home. To drop off sheets or fabric or for more information, call the church at 610-826-2524. The quilts are displayed in the church on Quilt Sunday (Mother's Day), May 8.Chair YogaThe Palmerton Area Library will offer Chair Yoga on Wednesday mornings starting at 10:30 a.m. April 13.Call 484-547-9150 for information and to register.Holy Trinity newsHoly Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton will hold worship services at 8 and 10:45 a.m. on Sunday. The children's special involvement in worship is the second Sunday of the month. Evening Bible study is Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m. in the Adult Education Room. Morning Bible study is Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Adult Education Room.
