Deceased infant showed no signs of trauma, Coroner says

Police are still investigating the suspicious death of an infant who was found not breathing at a daycare in Lehigh Township on Friday.

But the Carbon County Coroner says that the 3-month-old victim did not show any signs of trauma.

"I can tell you there's no trauma. We are investigating, but it doesn't look like it's going to be (suspicious)," Coroner Robert Miller said Monday.

Lehigh Township Police said Friday they were investigating the death of a 3-month-old infant. The girl was found not breathing Friday afternoon at Sharon's Day Care, located on Third Street in the village of Treichlers, and pronounced dead at Palmerton Hospital a short time later.

An autopsy was conducted at Lehigh Valley Hospital on Saturday. Miller said that it revealed no signs of trauma. However a cause and manner of death are still pending. Miller said that process could take more than three months.

Lehigh Township police were unavailable for comment on Monday.

In a press release put out Friday night, police said they were called to the day care around 3:30 p.m. for the unresponsive infant. Police and emergency personnel attempted life-saving efforts at the scene before the child was transported to Palmerton Hospital.

An obituary identified the victim as McKenna Rose Felmly, daughter of Adrienne L. Kromer and Bryan S. Felmly of Slatington.
