Hometown couple injured in Barnesville crash on Thursday

A Hometown couple was injured with one airlifted following a one-car crash Thursday on Route 54.

According to Sgt. Duane Frederick, Rush Township police, responders were dispatched to Pine Creek Drive and Church Road about 3 p.m. for a report of a collision with injuries.Police said Dennis Laul, 66, of Hometown, was traveling east on Pine Creek Drive when his Chrysler PT Cruiser crossed over the double yellow line, traveled off the road and hit a tree head-on. Laul was airlifted to a local trauma center.He told police he blacked out.A passenger, Valerie Laul, 66, of Hometown, also was injured and transported to St Luke's Hospital - Miners Campus in Coaldale by ambulance.Neither was wearing a seat belt, police said.Responding in addition to police were Ryan Township and Tamaqua ambulances, Hometown Fire Police, Ryan Township Fire and Rescue and Luzerne Medic APTS.
