Tamaqua Police arrested Albert M. Shaw, 32, of 33 Mauch Chunk St. Rear, Tamaqua, after receiving a report about a burglary in progress on Monday.
A witness called police at 9:32 a.m. to report that Shaw was removing items from homes located at 412, 414 and 416 E. Cottage Ave. Shaw fled on a bicycle but returned to the area 10 minutes later.This time, officers found him and another man standing in the street in front of the properties.Shaw said he had permission to remove the items, given by a woman at 416 E. Cottage Ave., a vacant property.Shaw was searched for weapons or contraband and officers found a round, plastic vial filled with a crystal like white substance, which field tested positive for methamphetamine.He also had a glass pipe with residue and 4318. A black backpack was found on the front porch of one of the homes.The witness said Shaw had been using the backpack, but Shaw denied it was his property. Inside the backpack was a small glass jar containing green vegetable matter, a pill holder with 66 Alprazolam pills, for which Shaw had no prescription, and a digital scale.He was charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, three counts of burglary and criminal trespass and receiving stolen property.Arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer, Shaw was lodged in the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville after being unable to post 10 percent of the imposed $50,000 bail.
