Bus, cars in crash in Palmerton

One man was injured following a three-vehicle crash involving a school bus early this morning along Route 248 near Palmerton.

Palmerton Police Sgt. Christopher Ritter said police were dispatched to the scene at 7:35 a.m.Ritter said the incident occurred as a school bus was traveling eastbound on Route 248 in the right-hand lane.A 2002 Subaru station wagon driven by Dale Biegley Jr., 27, of Lehighton, was approaching from the rear, and a 2003 Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by Theadore Nelson, 47, of Lehighton, was in the right lane.He said the Tacoma attempted to get into the left-hand lane to pass the buss, and hit the Subaru, causing the Toyota to turn sideways and strike the center divider, while the Subaru veered into the right-hand lane and then ran into the back of the school bus.Ritter said Biegley sustained right knee pain and numerous small cuts from the broken glass. He was taken to Palmerton Hospital for treatment.The Subaru was totaled, while the Toyota is drivable, he said.Ritter said traffic was diverted at the Bowmanstown ramp, and the road was cleared by 8:14 a.m.Also assisting at the scene were Palmerton EMS, Palmerton Fire Department, and Bowmanstown Fire Police, he said.Ritter said the crash remains under investigation.
