SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - A police officer has surrendered on a homicide charge in connection with the shooting death of a northeastern Pennsylvania man.
The (Scranton) Times-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/22ycIZu ) that Patrolman Francis Schulze was charged Thursday with killing 34-year-old Joe Molinaro of Fell Township. He was ordered held without bail.Schulze's attorney told reporters his client heard screaming outside the officer's Carbondale apartment on the night of Feb. 2, and wanted to make sure his child and his girlfriend's child were protected.The attorney, Corey Kolcharno, wouldn't go into details about the shooting.Molinaro's girlfriend says they were being loud but weren't fighting. She says a man with a flashlight aggressively approached them. She says Molinaro ran and that the man followed Molinaro before she heard three "pops."Schulze worked part time as a Carbondale police officer.
