Franklin Lions Club donates $11,000 to organizations

The Franklin Township Lions Club recently donated nearly $11,000 to several local organizations at a dinner held at the Phifer Ice Dam pavilion. The club raises the money through various fundraisers during the year. This year's recipients include: Seated, from left: Paula Hoffman representing Lions International Leader Dog, $1,000; Natalie Bojko, Family Promise of Carbon County, $500; and Carolyn Long, Trinity Lutheran Food Bank, $2,500. Standing: Lynn Diehl representing the Franklin Township Fire Company, $2,200; Phil Nuccio, Franklin Township Fire Police, $800; Liz McElwee, Beacon Lodge, $500; Lions District Gov. Ken Mimms, not a recipient; and Jim Blakeslee, Lehighton Memorial Library, $2,500. Additional contributions were sent to the American Cancer Society and Carbon County Environmental Center in the amount of $500 each, and $100 to Big Brother and Big Sister. Upcoming Lions Club events at Phifer Ice Dam include a Trout Fishing Contest on May 21. Registration is at 8 a.m., fishing begins at 9. A Spring Fling will be held from 3-6 p.m. May 22 in the amphitheater with music by One Night Stand. Food will be in the pavilion. CONTRIBUTED PHOTO
