Police investigate several Schuylkill crashes

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 3:46 p.m. March 14 at the intersection of Route 901 and West Lawn Road in Branch Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Laurence F. Fox, 87, of Pottsville, was driving a 2006 Buick Terraza northbound on West Lawn Road while Charles Marquette, 79, of Pottsville, was driving a 2007 Nissan Sentra eastbound on 901.Troopers said at the intersection Fox pulled out and attempted to cross 901 and pulled into the path of Marquette.Marquette attempted to avoid a collision by swerving but was unsuccessful. The Nissan struck the Buick on the front driver's side with its front passenger side. Fox, Marquette and his passenger, Jackie L. Sep, 26, of Minersville, all sustained minor injuries and were taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street in Pottsville. Both vehicles had to be towed.Troopers cited Fox for duties at a stop sign.Troopers also investigated a one-vehicle crash at 7:21 p.m. March 18 along Route 183 in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Heather M. Felmey, 29, of Pottsville, was driving a 2005 Kia Spectra northbound and as she exited a left curve in the road the Spectra crossed the double yellow line into the southbound lane.It continued off the road into a parking lot at R&J Transportation and struck a parked vehicle. The Spectra then traveled about 140 feet through the parking lot before striking a building of the transportation firm where it came to rest.Felmey was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on two crashes investigated by troopers on March 9.Troopers said Edward T. McGuire, 59, of Holtsville, New York, was southbound and stopped for a red traffic signal in the jughandle with Route 895 when his 2010 Toyota Corolla was struck in the rear by a 1990 Toyota Corolla driven by Maureen T. Adams, 73, of Pottsville.Adams sustained a minor injury and was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street in Pottsville. McGuire and his passenger, Jacqueline A. McGuire, were not injured.Troopers cited Adams for following too closely.A hit-and-run crash was reported at 1:44 p.m. on Cressona Road, near Sillyman Street, in Cressona borough.Debra Schwartz, 53, of Valley View was southbound and was stopped for traffic when her 2002 Dodge Dakota was struck in the rear by another vehicle. Schwartz pulled into the parking lot of a nearby service station while the other driver fled the scene. Schwartz was not injured.
