Man sentenced in multiple retail theft cases

A man charged with shoplifting, having drugs illegally, and resisting arrest in Rush Township will serve up to 23 months in Schuylkill County Prison.

President Judge William E. Baldwin on March 3 sentenced Jason R. Stephens, 22, of Schuylkill Haven, to a total of four to 23 months behind bars followed by two years of probation in five cases.He also ordered Stephens to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow through with treatment.Rush Township police charged Stephens with theft by deception and receiving stolen property after incidents on Oct. 25, 2014, and Nov. 22, 2014; with conspiracy to commit theft by deception and receiving stolen property on Oct. 30, 2014; and with resisting arrest and having prescription drugs he was not authorized to have on June 15, 2014.Stephens, along with Alexandra Perez, 24, of Tamaqua, and Alyssa Shellhammer, 24, of Barnesville, stole items from HT Commons Walmart, then made fraudulent returns, police said.Stephens also faces fresh retail theft charges after stealing $14.84 worth of merchandise from the same store on Christmas Eve.
