Stroudsburg St. Patrick's parade to be held Sunday

William "Bill" Kilmurray is the 2016 Grand Marshal of the Saint Patrick's Day Parade, which begins at 1:30 p.m. Sunday on Main Street in Stroudsburg and travels through East Stroudsburg. The parade will be held rain or shine.

Kilmurray began marching in Saint Patrick's Day Parades in 1948 in Newark, New Jersey.His family hails from County Roscommon Ireland, where he visited in 1993 and, yes, he has kissed the Blarney Stone. He takes great pride in visiting the Dublin Post Office, where the 1916 Easter Uprising was fought.As a member of the Pocono Irish American Club, Kilmurray has marched proudly with the Honor Guard for 25 years. Kilmurray, his sons and grandson wear the fishnet sweaters and the kilts as they march the colors of the United States and Ireland proudly up Main Street Stroudsburg over the Veterans Bridge and on into East Stroudsburg.Bill and Anne Kilmurray, married for 59 years, have helped run the club and its activities.A member of the U.S. Army Reserves, he was honorably discharged after six years of service in 1963. He worked for the New Jersey Department of Transportation for 48 years, being named Employee of the Year twice.Now retired, the Kilmurrays have been avid collectors of Antique Radios & Phonographs, as well as anything related to Thomas Edison. The Kilmurrays have traveled up and down the coast in search of their hobby and the clubs they belong to.He is a member of three Antique Radio Clubs located in New Jersey, New England and Maryland. His present-day activities include gardening, exercising and listening to jazz recordings.Community organizations, businesses and marching bands are participating, as well a pipe bands. Bands include Scranton Black Diamonds, Pocono Pipes and Drums, Rory O'Moore Pipes and Drums Cuchullan Pipe Band and St. Ann's Pipes and Drums.Irish dancers include Pocono Highland Dancers, FuSia Dance Company, Diamond Academy of Dance, Gallagher School of Irish Dance and McElligott School of Irish Dance.
