'Seussical the Musical'
It all begins with an odd red-and-white striped hat.
Those who wish to find out where "Seussical the Musical" goes from there should plan to head to the Tamaqua Area School District Auditorium this weekend.The Tamaqua Area Drama Club will present its rendition of the musical at 7 p.m. Friday, and at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday.Doors open one hour before show time. The cost of tickets are $10 for adults, and $8 for children.The musical promises to be both a fun and entertaining show, according to Amy Delpais, drama club director of marketing."The students at Tamaqua Area middle and high schools are very busy preparing for 'Seussical the Musical,'" Delpais said."Jojo is the daughter of the mayor of Whoville and Mrs. Mayor," she said. "Jojo's 'thinks' are getting her in trouble in Whoville. 'The Cat in the Hat' takes the audience through the adventures of Horton as he tries to save the Whos of Whoville and hatch Mayzie's egg."The lobby will feature games and activities for children, as well as a concession stand for children of all ages, Delpais said.Starring cast members include freshman Emily Barrett (The Cat), junior Hannah Betz (Gertrude McFuzz), junior Zach Deem (General Gengis Kahn Schmitz), sophomore Spencer DePue (Mayor of Whoville), junior George Hegedus (Horton the Elephant), senior Aimee Hull (Mrs. Mayor), senior Sarah Jones (Sour Kangaroo), junior Zoe Snyder (Mayzie la Bird) and eighth-grader Olivia Stettler (Jojo).Directors include Adriane Drum (director and costume design), Erika Cassell (assistant director and choreographer), Kristine Betz (music and pit band) and Geraldine Gardiner (set design).
