Five months after police say Nesquehoning lawyer Steven M. Cormier robbed a Schuylkill County bank, he has agreed to be disbarred.

Cormier, 58, submitted a letter of resignation, to the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.The board, which oversees lawyers, on Friday posted the action, without comment, on its website.On Oct. 23, 2015, the board suspended Cormier's license to practice law after he failed to pay a $200 annual fee.He was charged by state police at Schuylkill Haven on Oct. 13, 2015 with 12 felony counts of robbery, with a threat of immediate serious injury and robbery, demanding money from a financial institution; 12 felony counts of terroristic threats; felony counts of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property; and a misdemeanor count of possession of instruments of crime. According to police, Cormier was arrested a short time after he robbed the Wells Fargo Bank branch office, in the Fairlane Village Mall in Norwegian Township. Troopers said he entered the bank about 10:45 a.m. and approached employees, demanding that he wanted money now and if he doesn't get money "things will get ugly."After a teller filled a plastic bag Cormier supplied, he left the bank.Shortly after, Pottsville city police stopped Cormier. He was taken back to the bank and identified as the robber by three witnesses.A search warrant was obtained for his vehicle and found was the clothing he was wearing in the robbery, along with the plastic bag that was used and all the money that was taken. It totaled $15,923. No injuries were reported in the incident.Cormier on Nov. 18 waived his right to a preliminary hearing. He remains free on $5,000 unsecured bail.Cormier is represented by public defender Paul G. Domalakes of Frackville.
