Plans for St. Luke's medical office move forward

The medical office at the corner of routes 209 and 715 in Brodheadsville is moving forward.

Representatives of the 715 Professional Building met with Chestnuthill Township supervisors Thursday night. The building, which will be constructed where the old Brodheadsville Inn once stood, will serve as a medical office for St. Luke's.Project architect Todd Chambers addressed four waivers needed to proceed with the project. All four of the requests had to do with the design of the exterior of the building. None of the requests were substantial and all were granted. One change had to do with entrances off Routes 209 and 715. Since the building will be a medical building and will include a physical therapy office, the plan has all patrons entering from the parking lot, which is in the rear of the building. The requirement is for entrances on all major roadways. The architect designed the building so that there appear to be entrances off both roads, but they are actually solid glass panels. This is so that if, in the future, the building's use were to change, the panels could become entrances. This satisfied the supervisors. In addition, the project manager requested approval to begin work on the site pending the receipt of the Highway Occupancy Permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation."Since I have been involved, we have never permitted a developer to proceed without all of the third-party approvals in place," said Chairman Chuck Gould. "I know beyond a shadow that you guys are good for it, but if something goes awry, the township is on the hook for it."The developer agreed to put up a bond equivalent to the cost of returning the property to its preconstruction state if the township would approve the plans and issue the permit."I have no doubt that you guys are going to be good to your word," Gould said. "But if we do this for one, we have to do it for others, and that is a chance I personally am not willing to take. You can still submit the revised plan and ask these guys if they will grant you the approval, but I can tell you now, I will still vote no."Gould offered the township's assistance in contacting PennDOT and trying to expedite the HOP revision. The township is also collecting photographs from residents for its 2017 Quick Response Calendar.Go to the township website,
