The school board on Monday agreed to hold commencement exercises on June 10 for the Class of 2016.Other actionIn other business, the board:• Accepted the retirement resignation of Judith DeBias from her position as high school special education learning support aide, effective at the end of the 2015-16 school year. DeBias will retire after nine years of service to the district.• Accepted the retirement resignation of Susan Bowser from her position as middle school family and consumer science teacher, effective at the end of the 2015-16 school year. Bowser will retire after 26 years of service to the district.• Appointed Jennifer Balliet as a temporary vacancy replacement as a Slatington Elementary School fifth-grade teacher, replacing an employee on family medical leave at the substitute teacher rate days 1-30; day 31 and beyond $46,200 prorated, effective March 1, with a termination date upon return of full-time teacher.• Appointed Thomas Battista as a temporary vacancy replacement high school chemistry teacher, replacing an employee on family medical leave, at the substitute teacher rate days 1-30; day 31 and beyond $46,200 prorated, effective Jan. 29, with a termination date upon return of full-time teacher.• Approved Michele Custer as an elementary substitute teacher for the 2015-16 school year at the 2015-16 substitute teacher rates as approved at the Oct. 12, 2015, board meeting.• Granted Michele Dotta permission to attend the conference Pupil Services: Mental Health Matters, April 14-15, in Lancaster, with the cost of registration $295; lodging, $140; meals, $20; and travel, $79, for a total cost of about $534, to be funded from the special education director's budget.
