At Wednesday evening's board of supervisors meeting Chairwoman Mary Anne Clausen suggested that the township consider returning the DCNR grant funds which were received for the Mock Park project.

"With everything that is going on right now, with the extra cost of litigation, it would be impossible to come up with the township's part of the funds before the end of this year," Clausen said."We may need to have a special meeting to discuss this further, but if we are going to do it we are running out of time."The grant, which has already had an extension, runs out at the end of this year. The grant is for $40,000, which requires the township to match it at $20,000. In order to comply with the grant, a playground, parking area and other improvements must be completed by the end of this year.The project began sometime in 2010. Since that time a legal issue related to deed restrictions kept the township from proceeding with construction. Now that the legal issue is settled, time has run out for the grant."We did not have the community center when we started this project," Clausen said. "At least we have a playground now. The new playground was estimated to cost $60,000 last time we looked into it. That would mean that the $20,000 would go to the playground and the balance of the cost of the improvements would be the township's responsibility. I just don't believe that now is the time."The issue was tabled until a future meeting when Clausen hopes more residents will weigh in with ideas on how the township might proceed.A special meeting is also being considered to discuss the use of the grant funds which are earmarked for the community center. Originally the board was under the impression that several of the rooms could be air-conditioned for about $5,000 per room. The township engineers, Hanover Engineering, recently came up with specifications and an estimate of closer to $15,000 per room. The Hanover specifications required units which would go on the roof of the building.The board will be looking into other options to make the project more affordable.The board approved the hiring of Mike Kolba of Responsible Solutions to provide IT services to the township. Kolba offered his services at $200 per quarter and $50 per hour. The COSTARS-approved IT sources were considerably higher at around $150 per hour.
