An alleged sewage problem at the Mahoning Elementary School was the major topic of discussion at the monthly meeting of the Lehighton School Board.

Giselle Mathias, president of the Citizens for Affordable Schools, presented the board with a letter from environmental analysts which reported "human waste was definitely a source" in three water samples CFAS had tested.A report by Hess Environmental Laboratories, which tested the sample, said, "Sewage treatment plants which we monitor are allowed to discharge no more than 200 fecal coliform per 100 mL of sample. The discharge which you brought was 200 times above this limit."
