A total of four defendants entered guilty pleas on Tuesday to drunken driving charges and related offenses.
Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted pleas from the following:Brian Allen Brossman, 38, of Lansford, pleaded to driving under the influence along with two counts in other cases. The DUI occurred on March 24, 2014, along Broad Street in Beaver Meadows. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He also pleaded to one count of harassment for an incident on Aug. 13, 2014, at the Turkey Hill Market along Patterson Street in Lansford. Borough police said he harassed a juvenile female patron of the store by making lewd remarks of a sexual nature to her.In the third case he pleaded to false reports. He was arrested on Dec. 3, 2013, by Lansford police for an incident in the area of 339 E. Bertsch St., where police were called for a hit-and-run incident. Brossman gave police false information at the scene. He was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked from it before pleading to the charge.Matika deferred sentencing because Brossman must obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation in the DUI case.Steven Anthony Shanton,22, pleaded in two cases.He was arrested on Dec. 20, 2013, along East Catawissa Street by Nesquehoning police following a traffic stop. He pleaded to a count of possession of drug paraphernalia with a DUI charge dropped in a plea agreement. He was previously placed in the ARD program but revoked for violating conditions. The second arrest occurred on April 5, 2015, along Route 209 in Nesquehoning by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. He also pleaded to possession of drug paraphernalia in that case.On the DUI charge he was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year, zero tolerance imposed on drug and alcohol use and render 25 hours of community service. On the drug counts he was placed on probation for a year on each, concurrent with the DUI charge.He will begin the jail term at 4 p.m. March 11.Jacob Baer,18, of Edison, New Jersey, was arrested on May 25, 2015, along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year, zero tolerance imposed on drug and alcohol use, and render 25 hours of community service. He was given credit for five days spent in a inpatient rehab program and was in paroled.John Paul Bargeman,37, of Albrightsville, was arrested on Aug. 15, 2015, along Route 534 in Penn Forest Township by state police at Fern Ridge. A test showed 0.14 BAC.Sentencing was deferred.Michael Curtis Bowman, 32, of Tamaqua, was arrested on Oct. 31, 2015, along Patterson Street by Lansford police. A test showed 0.21 BAC.Sentencing was deferred.Each defendant sentenced must pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
