February 18, 1995 - Jim Thorpe's Dave Reese posts a 9-3 decision over Mike Benza to capture the 125-pound title at the Schuylkill League wrestling championships. Reese scores the final six points of the bout to break a tie and claim the gold medal. Earlier in the day, Reese uses a "cement job" to score five points in the final five seconds of his semifinal match with Pine Grove's Craig Lengle to pull out an 11-10 win and advance to the final. Besides Benza, Times News area silver medalists include Thorpe's Brad Sibbach (145 pounds), Tamaqua's Ron Creitz (119) and Panther Valley's Brandon McKee (160).
