A LOOK BACK

Amos Fry of Nanticoke has been appointed foreman on the inter-borough bridge construction project overlooking the Lehigh River in Mauch Chunk.

The new supervisor, who has been in the construction business since 1906, will oversee the work that is continuing with steel workers fastening segments with hot rivets, this process being watched with interest by spectators who flock to the site daily.Work on placing new steel beams in the pier areas overlooking the river has been temporarily halted because of continuing high water.Fry last worked on the bridge in 1942 when supporting piers on the bridge were strengthened after the span was designated as part of the excavation route serving New York residents in the event of an enemy air raid on the city.
