A Tamaqua man faces additional charges after being picked up on an outstanding warrant on Dec. 31.

Tamaqua Police came into contact with Jason Robert Stephens, 22, at an apartment at 424 E. Broad St. at 7:14 p.m. that day. Schuylkill County Adult Probation had a warrant issued for his arrest and Stephens was taken into custody.A pat-down search was conducted, resulting in the discovery of two open wax packets in his right front pocket. Each packet contained a small amount of a white, powdery residue, which Stephens said was heroin.He was transported to the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville.Tamaqua Police have now charged him with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
