A Hazleton man had three preliminary hearings scheduled for Jan. 12 before District Judge Stephen Bayer. The charges were related to retail thefts in two different jurisdictions.

James J. Yurkanin, 38, of 572 Wilbur Court, Hazleton, elected to waive those preliminary hearings. He was charged with retail theft and conspiracy to commit retail theft by Kline Township Police Chief John Petrilla after an Aug. 26, 2015, incident.Rush Township Police Sgt. Duane Frederick charged Yurkanin with retail theft, conspiracy to commit retail theft and receiving stolen property in connection with two incidents on Sept. 20, 2015.When Yurkanin was arraigned on all of these charges on Nov. 12, 2015, bail was set at $10,000 percentage in each case. He was lodged in the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville, in lieu of that bail.Bayer modified his bail, in each case, to $10,000 unsecured on Jan. 12, ending his confinement.Other retail theft cases included:Michael Hooper,27, of 124 W. Third St., Hazleton, waived his hearing on charges of retail theft and receiving stolen property. He was charged by Rush Township patrolman Robert Bechtel after a July 26, 2015, incident.Hooper was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.Brian Bartenope,39, of 316 E. Spruce St., West Hazleton, waived a hearing on charges of retail theft and conspiracy to commit retail theft. The charges were filed by Petrilla after an Aug. 26, 2015, incident in Kline Township.When Bartenope was arraigned on Dec. 7, 2015, bail was set at $15,000 straight cash, sending him to the Schuylkill County Prison.Bayer reduced bail to $15,000 unsecured, ending his confinement.Stephen Maguschak,25, of 45 Church St., Beaver Meadows, waived his hearing on charges of retail theft and conspiracy to commit retail theft. The charges were filed by Petrilla after an Aug. 26, 2015, incident in Kline Township.Maguschak was arraigned on the charges on Dec. 15, with bail set at $10,000 percentage. Unable to post bond, he was lodged in the Schuylkill County Prison.Bayer reduced bail to $10,000 unsecured, ending his confinement on Jan. 12.DUI casesCheryl Neikam, 41, of 93 N. Kennedy Drive, McAdoo, waived her hearing on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license and driving without rear lights. The charges were filed by McAdoo patrolman William Curilla after an Oct. 29, 2015, incident.Neikam was released on her own recognizance.Donald A. Moyer Jr.,50, of 46 N. Hancock St., McAdoo, waived his hearing on charges filed by Curilla. The charges include DUI and failure to use low beams.Moyer was released on his own recognizance.Julie F. Putlack,51, of 412 High St., Schuylkill Haven, waived a hearing on charges of DUI and speeding, exceeding the speed limit by 16 mph. The charges were filed by Tamaqua patrolman Richard Bekesy after a Nov. 12, 2015, incident.Putlack was released on her own recognizance.David A. Campanioni III,28, of Elysburg, had all charges against him withdrawn. They included DUI of a controlled substance, following too closely, driving with a suspended license, failure to keep right, careless driving and operating a vehicle without a valid inspection.Sarina Marie Gillott,25, of 10 Cherry St., Tamaqua, had charges of simple assault and harassment dismissed.No showsTwo defendants failed to appear for their preliminary hearings and will have arrest warrants issued for failure to appear.Angelo L. Seritti, 30, of 1233 E. Mahanoy St., Mahanoy City, was scheduled to be in court to answer to charges of retail theft and receiving stolen property. The charges were filed by Rush Township patrolman Joseph David after an Oct. 19, 2015, incident.Abdelrahman M. Yassin, 20, of 23 S. Kennedy Drive. McAdoo, was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle by McAdoo Police Chief Jeffrey Wainwright. The charge stems from a Dec. 1, 2015, incident.
