Man is charged after Jim Thorpe crash

A one-vehicle crash along Packer Hill in Jim Thorpe, which took place at 7:31 a.m. Nov. 26, 2015, has resulted in charges being filed against a Lansford man.

Police said Jose Santa Karnish, 26, of 208 W. Patterson St., is facing charges of unauthorized use of an automobile and recklessly endangering another person, both misdemeanors, and several summary Motor Vehicle Code violations.Police said he was driving a 2002 Subaru Legacy owned by his girlfriend, who informed them Karnish did not have permission to use her vehicle because she knew he did not have a driver's license.Police said when they responded to the scene, they found the station wagon hanging on a rock ledge approximately 15 feet from the roadway. Police said there were no occupants around the vehicle, but they later learned Karnish had been driving it.Police said there was significant damage to the guide wire, which pulled up rocks that hit a rock wall, causing heavy damage to the guide wire and wall. The crash also caused damage to a Verizon fiber optic box that was situated off the roadway.
