Concourse Club names January Guiding Star

Each year the Concourse Club of Palmerton honors five Guiding Stars from Palmerton Area High School. Guiding Stars are chosen by a committee of high school educators in the district.

A Guiding Star must be a female student in the top 25 percent of the senior class and be involved in both school and community activities. Each Guiding Star receives a certificate, an engraved Guiding Star charm and a $100 cash award.Vithusha Selvavelautham was recognized at the Jan. 7 Concourse Club meeting at St. John's Lutheran Church. Vithusha is the daughter of Selva Sellathamby and Thushitha Selvavelautham. She has one brother, Reshan.Vithusha was accompanied to the meeting by her father and brother. She recognized her mother as her guiding star for her selfless ways and love for helping others.Vithusha's hobbies include knitting, crocheting, listening to music and singing. The Concourse Club members enjoyed a lovely vocal presentation by Vithusha.Her school activities include National Honor Society, chorus, Souled-out, Future Business Leaders of America, Environmental Club and Student Council.Vithusha is interested in reaching out to help others as is reflected in her community involvement. She is an assistant teacher at the Palmerton Area Library Adult Technology Program. She is involved in the PAL Summer Reading Program and the PAL Homework Helpers.Vithusha enjoys learning. Her future plans are to graduate with a bachelor's degree in computer science, mastering in software engineering.
