Tamaqua art center offers something for everyone

The Tamaqua Community Art Center is the place to be to beat the winter blahs during February. From weekly classes, to musical shows, to an artist meet and greet, the art center has something for everyone.

It all begins on Thursdaywith a meet and greet for local artist Morrell "Mo" Devlin and his "frozen" art photography.Devlin is a 1973 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School and began his career as a photojournalist while serving on active duty with the U.S. Army. His work with tropical fish has become internationally recognized, published regularly in several hobby magazines and National Geographic.The meet and greet will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.The King and Dean music and comedy dinner show will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Presented by Rick Lorady, the show features the work of Elvis Presley and Dean Martin.The "Love is in the Air" Valentine's Cabaret is scheduled for Feb. 13, beginning at 7 p.m.A candy bar bingo will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Feb. 19. All you need is one full-size candy bar to play.If you've ever wondered how they create those beautiful Pysanky Ukrainian Easter eggs, you will have the opportunity to learn and create your own work of art. Classes will begin at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24. The five-week class is scheduled to continue on Wednesdays through March 23.February's weekly schedule also includes a number of regular activities.Mondays are busy with Music Together sessions for young children and their parents; bisque ceramics, clay pottery, mosaic and yoga classes; and Coal Cracker Chorus rehearsals.The

L.O.L. literary group meets at 6 p.m. Tuesdays, and a paint and sip class is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 16.Harmonica classes will be held at noon, while piano and voice classes will be held at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday during the second month of the year. A Chalk and Chew Class will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday;Paint and Sip classes at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 10 and 17.On Thursdays, you can find mosaic, pottery and ceramic classes at 6 p.m. Kids' art classes will be held at 6 p.m. on Feb. 11 and 25.Fridays feature yarn classes at 9 a.m. and Music Together sessions are at noon. A paint and sip for two class will be held at 6 p.m. on Feb. 12.Saturdays are kept busy with guitar, piano and voice lessons at 9 a.m.; sculpture and pottery classes at 11 a.m.; kids paint at 10 a.m. Saturday; children's cooking session at 10 a.m. Feb. 13; and a first-time homebuyer's workshop at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 27.The center is also sponsoring a bus trip to the Philadelphia Art Museum on March 13, to view the work of Tamaqua artist Joseph Marioni.The art center is located at 125 Pine St. in Tamaqua.
