The Pennsylvania Torchbearers Theta chapter of Beta Sigma Phil Sorority held its annual Christmas party at the Lake Hauto home of Diane Agosti on Dec. 9.The meeting included a gift exchange and the finalization of donations to area charitable organizations.The beneficiaries are Women in Crisis, the Tamaqua Public Library, the Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care and the Tamaqua Community Art Center.The chapter's next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Tamaqua Diner.Free movieThe scheduled presentation of the movie "War Room" had to be rescheduled last weekend due to the weather. The film will now be presented this weekend at New Life Assembly of God Church, 407 Schuylkill Ave.Presentations will be at 1 and 6 p.m. on Saturday, and at 1 p.m. on Sunday.The film was produced by the Kendrick brothers and is about the power of prayer.Free mealThe next monthly Community Soup Social at Trinity United Church of Christ will be held on Feb. 6. The social will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the social hall.The meal is free to the public and everyone is welcome to enjoy the soup, desserts, refreshments and time with friends.For more information, or to volunteer, stop by the church, 22 Lafayette St., or call 570-668-4139.Tamaqua seniorsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Jan. 21 with 59 members in attendance.Vice president Nancy Gerber conducted the business session.Norma Lee Burke provided the invocation "Safety Net." President Melody Weicker was added to the sick list. Dues for 2016 are now being accepted.Members are reminded to bring brown bag lunches during the winter months.The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St. The group is open to anyone 55 or older and the YMCA is handicap accessible.Exercise programA healthy lifestyle exercise and nutrition class for children between the ages of 5 and 8 is coming to the Tamaqua YMCA.Starting on Feb. 4, the sessions will offer children the opportunity to learn about proper stretching and exercising, along with creating their own healthy snacks.
