Lehighton street program expected to cost $75,000

Lehighton's street program is estimated to cost about $75,000.

On a unanimous vote, borough council on Monday agreed to advertise this year's street program.Borough manager Nicole Beckett said the borough will pay for the project from its liquid fuels fund.Beckett said the borough will bid an estimated 37,000 square yards of bituminous seal coat.The streets planned are as follows:• Seventh Street, from Iron to Coal• Ochre Street, from First to Fourth• 11th Street, from Hamilton to Coal• South Fourth Street, from Bridge to Alum• Alum Street, from Seventh to Ninth• Bridge Street, from East Penn to Summit Avenue• Carbon Street, from First to ThirdOther actionCouncil also:• Appointed Barry Fisher to assistant superintendent for the L&P department. Fisher has been in the position since May, and this action makes the position permanent.• Agreed to advertise for an assistant public works superintendent.• Agreed to terminate employee number 69, and to allow Beckett to respond to any grievances concerning the employee.• Recognized, and gave thanks, to Patricia and Arlington Everett for their donation toward the Col. Jacob Weiss Park project.• Adopted a resolution appointing police Chief Brian Biechy, Councilman Scott Rehrig, and Beckett to the police pension committee.
