Lehighton smoke detectors to be replaced

Lehighton Borough Council agreed this week to spend $8,100 for 21 smoke detectors to be placed in the Lehighton Police Station.

Police Chief Brian Biechy said smoke detectors has previously been installed in the building, but then dropped ceilings were put in, rendering the smoke detectors almost useless.Biechy said it would be more cost-effective to remove the old ones and put in new ones.He said six smoke detectors would be installed on the second floor, and the other 15 on the first floor.150th anniversaryAlso on Monday, William Schwab discussed the over 150 pictures he presented to the borough to represent 150 years of history in the borough.The pictures will be displayed in council's chambers throughout the term of the celebration.In a related matter, council granted the borough's Shade Tree Commission permission to place a tree on the wall in borough hall with brass plaques to reflect the trees purchased for the 150 Tree Initiative for the 150th Anniversary Celebration.
