Snowblowers are a precious commodity

In the days leading up to a normal snowfall, shovels, ice scrapers, and bags of rock salt are a good bet to be in demand.

But, when a blizzard strikes, snowblowers appear to be all the rage.So much so, that only a select few snowblowers were available at local hardware stores just several days after the blizzard. There were no snowblowers to be had over at the Tractor Supply Co. Lehighton, according to store manager Tessa Goss."We only had a couple, and they were gone before the storm came," Goss said. "They followed the weather report and came and bought their snowblowers."Goss said she doesn't believe the store will be getting more snowblowers in."I don't think there is any more to be had as far as our warehouse," she said. It's much the same at Art's Place in Lehighton, where their snowblowers sold out.Owner/manager Kevin Hoffman said the business is all sold out, as customers purchased the machines leading up to the snowstorm.Hoffman added that the business wasn't planning on getting any more snowblowers in stock. The exception is Marzen Hardware in Jim Thorpe, where several models are available for sale."We were lucky to have a couple left," owner Joe Marzen said. "There was inquiries about them; actual purchases, no, not yet."Marzen said that snowblowers can be a huge help in storms like the past one."They work great for the type of snow we had," he said. "Because we had a lighter snow."
