Kunkletown attempted homicide suspect arrested in Louisiana

Shawn Fitzgerald, 24, formerly of Kunkletown, was charged by Detective Joseph Coddington of the Monroe County District Attorney's Office for attempted homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, and terroristic threats.

According to police:

Iin June 2015 Fitzgerald, who was living with his girlfriend and her mother in Kunkletown, got into a verbal argument that turned physical. That evening Fitzgerald tried to take money from the victim, his girlfriend's mother. The money was in the victim's bedroom.

The victim stood in the hallway to block Fitzgerald from entering her bedroom. The victim, feeling threatened, pulled out a knife as Fitzgerald was verbally abusive and threatening.

According to police, Fitzgerald took "the knife from the victim and put the blade to her throat." The victim began to struggle with Fitzgerald and he put his other hand on the back of the knife and pushed it into her throat. The victim then fell to the ground and the victim's daughter, who witnessed the incident, took the knife away from Fitzgerald. The victim said she could feel a large amount of blood coming from her throat.

Fitzgerald, now standing over the victim, said, "She's not dead yet," and began to choke the victim. The victim said she tried to fight back and the victim's daughter helped get him off of her.

The victim was treated at Pocono Medical Center for her injuries.

Detective Joseph Coddington was able to track Fitzgerald to Holden, Louisiana, where he was arrested on Thursday by Livingston Parish Sheriff Deputies in the front yard of his grandmother's house.

Fitzgerald was taken before a Livingston Parish Judge today for an extradition hearing.

Fitzgerald refused to sign the extradition papers. The Monroe County District Attorney's Office will be applying for a governors warrant to bring Fitzgerald back to Pennsylvania to answer to the charges.

An extradition warrant from the governor is necessary to extradite an uncooperative out of state fugitive.
