Carbon County court - DUI

Six defendants charged with driving under the influence, and related counts, entered guilty pleas this week in Carbon County court before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Robert Christopher Stull,37, of Saylorsburg, was arrested on Aug. 29, 2015, by state police at Fern Ridge along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Matika sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, license suspension for a year and render 25 hours of community service.He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. Jan. 26.Jesse George Marshall,44, of Lansford, was arrested on Feb. 5, 2015, along Bertsch Street in Lansford by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He also pleaded to endangering the welfare of a child as there was a 13-year-old juvenile in the vehicle at the time.He is facing a nine- to 16-month minimum prison term at the time of sentencing, Matika noted. Sentencing was deferred so he could apply for placement in the county's intermediate punishment program.Sierra Lynn Serfass,20, of Lehighton, was arrested on Feb. 28, 2015, along Hemlock Drive by Mahoning Township police. A test showed 0.13 BAC.Sentencing was deferred so she could obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Amy Cecile Ruggiero,46, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, was arrested on Jan. 3, 2015, along the turnpike in Kidder Township by state police at Pocono. A test showed 0.23 BAC. A 9-year-old child was in the vehicle with her at the time. Ruggiero was not charged with any offense related to the juvenile in the vehicle.A first offense, Matika placed her on probation for six months and ordered her to pay a fine of $300, render 100 hours of community service and zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use.Linda Ann Leone,50, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on Dec. 4, 2013, along Patterson Street by Lansford police. A test showed 0.19 BAC.She was placed on probation for six months, ordered to render 25 hours of community service and zero tolerance on drug and alcohol use.Robert L. Werner,24, of Coaldale, was arrested on Aug. 1, 2015, along Route 209 by Lansford police. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so he could get a drug and alcohol evaluation and apply for placement in the intermediate program.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
