As winter storm Jonas rages on throughout the region, Carbon County officials are asking residents to stay indoors.
Mark Nalesnik, Carbon County EMA coordinator, said that a partial emergency operations center at the EMA building has been activated to monitor the conditons as the storm progresses."It is best if you don't travel right now," Nalesnik said, adding that it will help road crews keep up with the storm if cars are not out on the road.He noted that there hasn't been any major issues as a result of the storm so far.A number of municipalities have already issued state of emergencies.This morning, the Carbon County Commissioners declared a snow disaster emergency and urged everyone to not travel due to "extremely dangerous" conditons.Lansford, Summit Hill and Jim Thorpe issued state of emergencies shortly after noon, meaning no vehicles are to be on the roads that aren't authorized to be.
