Tigers fall to Catty

Three and a half quarters of solid basketball is usually good enough to win a game.

But it wasn't for Northwestern on Friday. The Tigers dug themselves an early 13-0 hole against Catasauqua and could never get out.Despite being outscored by Northwestern in the final three periods, the Rough Riders held on and earned a critical, 57-48, Colonial League victory"That's by far the best start we've had all year, it's not even close," Catasauqua coach Eric Snyder said. "We shot well and we didn't fire up threes. We got nice shots in the paint, some drive and dishes for catch and shoots, but no lousy shots."Catty's sensational sophomore Isaiah Graves was near unstoppable during the win, pouring in a game-high 25 points."He's getting there, but he has to remain intense all of the time," Snyder said. "He plays all of the time, AAU - everything. He has moments where his mind wanders and you can tell when it does. His biggest problem is to remain focused. But he's quick and aggressive."Robert Seyfried of Northwestern had to do battle with a pair of 6-3 Catty big men in the paint, but tallied a workman-like 12-point 12-rebound performance."He worked really hard," Northwestern coach Billy Hallman said. "They're big and they're good players from Catty, so we're proud of Robbie and how he worked."Unfortunately for Northwestern, the early deficit proved to be a bit too much to come back from."We got off to a slow start," Hallman said. "Catasauqua came out and shot the ball really well. We were able to pick up the pressure, we just couldn't get that shot to drop, the one to get us over the hump."The Tigers' senior guard Parker Jones was a big reason his team outscored Catty in the final three frames, scoring eight of his 10 points in second half."I wanted him to get to the basket, not settle for an outside shot, and it worked out," Hallman said. "We don't' really know who's going to score for us, so it's nice having multiple options and it makes it tough for the other team."I never question how hard our kids work. They're going to give 100 percent every day. Knowing that, I know we have a shot in every game."BLOCK PARTY… Six-foot-three Catty center Kevin Bond has been altering his opponents' shots throughout his entire career. He picked up eight more blocks during Friday's victory.COLLECTIVE EFFORT… Despite Catty's dominant height inside, the Tigers outrebounded the Rough Riders 38-36.CATASAUQUAGraves 8-5-11-25, Hicks 0-0-0-0, Mason 6-11-3-14, Bond 4-1-2-11, Fogel 4-0-0-8, Pontician 0-1-2-1, Brett 0-0-0-0.
