Man tried to lure child in Bowmanstown

A maN in a white 1990s Mustang allegedly tried to lure a child into his car early Thursday morning in the Bowmanstown area.

Trooper Joseph Wood of the Lehighton State Police barracks said police were notified of the incident, which occurred at 6:45 a.m. at Club and Cherry Hill roads.Wood said the vehicle's license plate number is unknown, and that there was no description of the man."One of the parents said they've seen this vehicle driving around the area, so it may be local, but we don't know for sure," Wood said.Palmerton Area School District Superintendent Scot Engler said the district was notified of the situation by its bus company, George's Transportation."We made sure we got in touch with the parent of the child," Engler said. "Additionally, I spoke with the state police because I wanted to send out a Blackboard Connect message to all of our families."Engler said he spoke with the parent to make sure that the information that was put out was correct, and added that the district sent out the message to all the families at 9 p.m.The message said: "Please be advised that we have learned of an attempt by a man to lure a student into his vehicle today in the Bowmanstown area. The man was possibly driving a mid-1990s white mustang with a loud exhaust. Please be sure to discuss the potential dangers of approaching strangers and/or unknown vehicles with your child."Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lehighton State Police Barracks at 610-681-1850.
