Towamensing supervisors

There were few changes as Towamensing Township met Monday for reorganization. Penny Kleintop continues as chairwoman of the supervisors with Tom Newman as vice chairman.

The roadmaster for 2016 will be Scott Mosier. Brenda Drew is secretary and Kim Bedio is assistant. Kleintop is treasurer.Tom Nanovic of Nanovic Law Offices will serve as township solicitor.Carl Faust and Majorie Faust are zoning officer and alternate. Carl is also uniform building code officer and uniform building code inspector. An alternate inspector is Jim Melber.Carbon Engineering, represented by Greg Haas, is the township engineer, and Richard Workman is on the vacancy board and is watchdog for the agility program. Sewage enforcement officers are Scott Bieber and Stephen Gitch, alternate.Tom Newman is the emergency management officer and, for the first time, will have a deputy, Bobby O'Donnell.Jennie Cheng will be solicitor for the zoning hearing board and planning commission. Drew is the planning commission secretary.Members of the Towamensing Township Historical Commission are Karl Rolappe, Thomas Newman, Mary Beth Beers, Dick Bieling, Paul Hoppel, Brenda Drew, Lora Nothstein and Roy Christman.Since there are no working supervisors who have to have wages set, the auditors, Eva Dugan, Julia Castello and Mildred Lehman, will only reorganize when they meet. Kirk Summa and Co. was advertised as auditor for the township. The annual audit is to begin Jan. 5.The joint board of appeals' representative is Greg Haas. Newman and Guy Seifert are delegates to the Carbon County tax collection committee. The treasurer's bond is set at $1.5 million, and the blanket bond for the office is $25,000.The mileage reimbursement rate is $0.54 per mile. Drew will be the representative at the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors' convention.Zoning hearing board members are George Karas, William Acierno, Karl Peilmeier and alternate Don Bonett.Meeting dates are set for supervisors, the first Thursday, 7 p.m.; planning commission, second Monday, 7 p.m.; recreation, April 21 and Dec. 15, 7 p.m.; historical commission, fourth Thursday, 7 p.m.; and staff meeting, fourth Thursday, 2:30 p.m., except on Wednesday if the first Thursday is the day before a holiday.An activities list provided by the fire company was approved with the dates to be determined. Workers' compensation will not cover indoor events where smoking is allowed.
