Man charged with beating, sending man outside naked

A Berks County man has been charged in the beating of a man who was observed running naked in the streets of Slatington early Monday.

Raul N. Caraballo, 36, of Reading, was arraigned Monday night with aggravated assault and simple assault for allegedly punching and pistol-whipping Jarod West at 801 Main St. in Slatington.Caraballo was sent by District Judge Patricia Engler to Lehigh County Jail under $100,000 bail.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Detective Timothy Wagner of the Slatington Police Department:Wagner was called to 801 Main St. to investigate the assault of a man who said he was punched and pistol-whipped by Caraballo.Wagner interviewed West, who said that he was in the home and Caraballo came in from a rear door and assaulted him.West said that not only was he punched in the face with a closed fist, but he was also struck in the head several times with a metallic/metal object that resembled a gun.West had multiple injuries on his head and neck consistent with what he told Wagner.Other people present at the location at the time of the incident were interviewed by Wagner and confirmed that Caraballo did have a metallic object that appeared to be a gun, and that Caraballo struck West several times in the head with the object, and a closed fist.After the assault, West said that he was told by Caraballo to remove all his clothing and leave.West did as he was told by Caraballo and ran outside. He was stopped by officer Stephen Kiefer a short distance from the location.
