Drugs are a continuing epidemic

2015 proved to be a busy year for law enforcement in the area of drug busts.

Here are the drug busts and cases in Carbon and surrounding counties that were published on the Times News front pages this year. The dates represent the day the article ran and the list does not represent a complete list of all drug busts throughout the region over the past 12 months.Jan. 13: Eight charged in Schuylkill for 2014 drug deals. Charged were Sara T. Lucykanish of Lehighton; Daniel Fink of Parryville, Joel T. Vermillion, Francisco Aponte Jr., Elizabeth Tansley, Kevin J. Tansley, Zachary D. Hoffman and Derek M. Hunsicker, all of Tamaqua.Feb. 5: Tamaqua police find 4.2 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop of Lansford man. Charged was Robert F. Kosica.March 9: Three arrested in drug sting that netted 450 bags of heroin; fourth suspect wanted for hitting task force vehicle, leading police on high-speed chase. Charged were Curtis Margle of Lehighton; Cynthia Hippenstiel of Ranshaw, formerly of Lehighton; Robert Fox of Quakertown, formerly of Palmerton; and Jason Wilk of Lehighton, who was later arrested on April 3.March 25: Hot meth lab found inside car along Claremont Avenue in Hometown. Charged was Justin D. Pakosky of Tamaqua.March 25: Nesquehoning police find large amount of heroin, money in traffic stop. Charged was Joshua Ynoe Mejia of Hazleton.March 26: A Nesquehoning man, Vito Kevin Focht, who sold crystal meth to undercover officers three times in Nesquehoning in 2014 is charged.April 10: 11 charged in prison drug ring (Operation H Block). Jacqueline Homschek of Kunkletown, who was incarcerated at Carbon County Prison, was charged with hiding 50 bags of heroin, suboxone and syringes inside her body while at a hearing. She then brought the drugs back inside the prison and shared them with fellow inmates. Also charged are Dylan Rahmann of Saylorsburg, who hid the drugs for Homschek; and inmates Jennifer Rudelitch of Nesquehoning; Holly Koch of Lehighton; Jennifer Steigerwalt; Dana McFadden of Summit Hill; Alexis Goldberg of Lansford; Shaina Haas and Tiffany Scott, both of Lehighton; and Megan Magushak of Beaver Meadows.May 6: $1.5 million heroin ring busted in Carbon County in Operation 93 Pipeline. Eleven area residents charged: Joshua Ynoe Mejia, the boss of the operation and who was also charged in Nesquehoning for drugs in March; Bradesky Santos Jr., Anthony Jordan Vega and Erik Feliz, all of Luzerne County; David Allen Anthony Jr., Brittany Michele Vincent, Matteo Puddu and Curtis Margle (previously charged by police in March), all of Carbon County. Margle had a subgroup that included Jason Wilk (previously charged after leading police on high-speed chase in March), Cynthia Ann Hippenstiel (previously charged in March), and Robert Fox (previously charged in March).May 7: Two Mahoning Township residents face charges in drug bust. Charged were Karen Foster and Joshua Thack.June 1: Rush police chase nets 22 grams of cocaine, $2,000 in cash. Charged was Benigno Negron-Cedeno of Wilkes-Barre after he led police on a high-speed chase on Claremont Avenue.July 27: Tamaqua police find 240 packets of drugs and syringes during traffic stop. Charged was Jordan Tessitore of Lansford.Aug. 24: Domestic call leads to meth lab discovery in East Penn Township. Charged was Jason M. Trinkle, who was also wanted on an arrest warrant in Lehigh County.Sept. 5: Two from Lehigh County charged with diverting prescription drugs. Charged were Lisabeth A. Cerciello of Allentown and James Snyder of Slatington.Sept. 10: $200,000 in meth, $28,000 seized in Palmerton raid. Charged was Donald Charles Fritz Jr.Oct. 2: Nesquehoning police arrest drug dealer with 75 bags of heroin. Charged was Juanita "Pretty Money" Gonzalez of Hazleton.Oct. 14: DEA, police seize 1,700 bags of heroin, 10 grams of cocaine, prescription pills, $1,000 in cash and a handgun in drug roundup in Jim Thorpe. Ten people were arrested, but identities were not released.Nov. 10: Lehigh County Drug Task Force charges New Tripoli man with meth lab operations. Charged was Alfred N. Zotter III.
