More than 100 households without electricity

Residents in more than 100 households in Tamaqua area and Slatington are finishing their holiday weekend in darkness.

Emergency crews from PPL have been dispatched to the Owl Creek and New England Valley sections of Tamaqua and Walker Township to address power outages affecting 74 households, where blackouts were reported shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday.

In a possibly related issue, power is flickering on and off at homes in the Wildcat Mountain section of Walker Township, just outside of Tamaqua, according to online reports.

The outages occurred just as cold rain began falling in the early evening.

According to a PPL website, the outages apparently are being caused by tripped breakers and blown fuses. Repairs are expected to be completed at 10:30 p.m. Sunday in affected locations in greater Tamaqua area.

Similarly, blackouts are affecting 28 households in sections of Slatington near West Church and Seventh Street. PPL blames those outages on tripped breakers and blown fuses with an anticipated power restoration time of 10 p.m.

Also, 15 PPL electric customers in the McAdoo and Audenried sections of northern Schuylkill County are without power due to a vehicle crash. Power restoration in that area is expected to be completed by 8 p.m.
