WAYMART, Pa. (AP) - Pennsylvania State Police shot and killed a man in northeastern Pennsylvania late Monday.
Police from the Honesdale barracks killed 21-year-old Derek DeGroat at a home in Canaan Township, Wayne County.
District Attorney Janine Edwards says troopers were responding to a 911 call from a family member who said DeGroat was threatening to kill himself. Edwards says DeGroat's girlfriend also told a dispatcher that DeGroat had three guns and said he would "kill police" if they came there.
She says DeGroat's family described a scene "involving multiple weapons, multiple potential victims and multiple threats of harm. In any situation like that, a full response by PSP is expected as a matter of public safety."
Prosecutors are investigating the shooting.
