The holiday season is a busy time of year. Not just for shoppers, but for criminals as well. The Pennsylvania State Police want to assist you in having a safe and joyous holiday by offering some basic crime prevention tips for the holiday season.
Always stay alert! Pay attention to your surroundings and the people around you. Don't become distracted from your purse or packages. Walk purposefully and make eye contact with the people around you.Carry your purse close to your body with the purse flap against your body. Don't let your purse dangle by the straps. Men should carry their wallets in front or inside pockets.Carry only the charge/credit cards you will need.Don't carry or flash large amounts of money.Always lock your vehicle and store all packages in the trunk.Park in well-lighted areas and close to store entrances. Be aware of the people in the parking lot and the cars next to yours. When returning to your vehicle, have your keys ready so you are not shifting items around and becoming distracted. If you have to wait for a ride, wait in a busy, well-lighted area.If purchasing items online, use only legitimate sites that are secured and protected.Avoid telephone charity scams. Don't give out personal information over the telephone. Use charities that have local chapters to make donations.Don't hesitate to notify security or the police if you see suspicious activity.
