Four defendants who previously pleaded guilty to driving under the influence charges were sentenced Tuesday in Carbon County court.
The four appeared before Judge Steven R. Serfass.Todd L. Zimmerman, 46, of Lehighton, was arrested on April 12 by state police at Lehighton along Park Street in Weissport. A test showed 0.25 BAC.He was sentenced to serve two days in jail followed by five months in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program, with the first 28 days spent on electronic monitoring, pay a fine of $500, one year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service. On two motor vehicle code violations he was fined a total of $35 and costs.He begins the jail term at 9 a.m. Jan. 2.Justin Bernard Taschler, 34, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 15 along Mauch Chunk Street by Mahoning Township police. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance. He had also pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.Serfass sentenced him on the DUI charge to serve 30 days in jail followed by 59 months in the IPP with the first 60 days on electronic monitoring, pay a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months and render 100 hours of community service. On the drug count he was placed on probation for a year, concurrent with the DUI charge, but must render an additional 50 hours of community service.He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. Dec. 22.William Paul Evans Jr., 56, of Lehighton, was arrested on June 3 along Pine Avenue in Jim Thorpe by state police at Lehighton. A test showed 0.09 BAC.He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
