Palmerton man indicted for drugs, guns

The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that a federal grand jury in Scranton has indicted a Palmerton resident for drug trafficking and firearm offenses.

According to United States Attorney Peter Smith, the indictment charges Donald C. Fritz Jr., 43, with distribution of, and possession with intent to distribute, crystal methamphetamine.State narcotics investigators found drugs, cash and an illegal weapon during a raid on his home in July.Fritz possessed 500 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing crystal methamphetamine and six illegal firearms around July 16, according to the indictment.The methamphetamine has a street value of $200,000, according to police.The firearms included a Taurus .357 magnum, Walther PPK .380 ACP, Hi Point Model JCP .40 caliber with an obliterated serial number, Heritage .17 caliber revolver, Marlin .22 caliber rifle and a Traditions .50-caliber in-line muzzleloader.The weapons were possessed in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, according to prosecutors.Authorities also seized six rounds of .357 caliber ammunition, four rounds of .380 caliber ammunition, seven rounds of .40 caliber ammunition, $29,091 in valid U.S. currency and $1,200 in counterfeit U.S. currency.Fritz was arrested Aug. 26.The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General.Assistant United States Attorney Phillip J. Caraballo is prosecuting the case.
