December Guiding Star named

Each year the Concourse Club of Palmerton honors five Guiding Stars from the Palmerton Area High School. The Guiding Stars are chosen by a committee of high school educators in the district.

A Guiding Star must be a female student in the top 25 percent of the senior class and be involved in both school and community activities. Each Guiding Star receives a certificate, an engraved Guiding Star charm and a $100 cash award.Lila Mary Goodhile was recognized as the December Guiding Star at the Dec. 5 Concourse Club meeting at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Lila is the daughter of Kay and Robert Goodhile. She has two brothers and two half brothers.Lila honored Eugene Roberts, naming him her Guiding Star for the ways in which he has shaped her life through teaching, coaching and friendship.Lila's hobbies are playing basketball and participating in track and field, reading, and music. Lila's ability to learn quickly has helped her to master playing the guitar, a newly acquired talent. Concourse Club members enjoyed her singing and guitar playing at the meeting.Lila is a member of Leo Club, National Honor Society, the

G.A.T.E. Program, Environmental Club and Stage Crew.Her community activities include participating in the church youth group and church choir. She has volunteered at a local soup kitchen, camp and Miracle League.Lila plans to further her studies at Virginia University or Messiah College to pursue a degree in forensic chemistry/biology and toxicology.
