DECEMBER 14, 1970Workmen report construction of the new Lehighton-Weissport bridge over the Lehigh River is proceeding on schedule.The former structure had to be rebuilt to be able to handle the flow of modern-day traffic.The new structure will be made of prestressed steel beams with a 7-inch concrete deck. It will be supported by four heavy-duty piers, made of prestressed concrete.The new bridge, which is expected to be completed by October 1971, will have a 44-foot roadway with 5-foot sidewalks on each side.Work is being done by the Zeislot Construction Co., Bloomsburg, at a cost of $720,272.
