Carbon man admits threats, gets time-served

A Carbon County man pleaded guilty last week in the county court to one count each of terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person.

Michael Keith Strohl, 38, of Lehighton, entered the pleas before Judge Joseph J. Matika.Strohl was scheduled to go on trial Monday on the counts plus others but instead entered into a plea bargain with the district attorney's office.Strohl was arrested by state police at Lehighton following an incident at 1124 Indian Hill Road, in Franklin Township, on May 11. Troopers were dispatched to the home after a neighbor called saying they heard yelling and screaming and what sounded like items being broken.On scene troopers found Strohl at the residence. He got into an argument with the estranged husband and son of the woman who was his girlfriend at the time.An argument turned physical with Strohl threatening the husband and having physical contact with the son.Strohl told Matika the incident stemmed from the husband and son not liking him and being jealous. He admitted an alcohol and substance abuse problem, but claimed the alcohol problem is under control.Strohl is currently an inmate in the county prison because he violated the conditions of his bail when a urine screen he was required to submit to at the probation office turned up "hot" for illegal substances.On the charges Matika sentenced him to time-served (44 days) and paroled him. He was also ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance imposed for drug and alcohol use, render 50 hours of community serve, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole and have no contact with his former girlfriend.
