BROOKHAVEN, Pa. (AP) - A suburban Philadelphia woman is accused of stealing more than $40,000 from her 92-year-old mother and setting up a bogus fundraiser in her mother's name.
Authorities have charged 53-year-old Carol Mongrandi with theft, receiving stolen property and related offenses for exploiting her mother.
The Delaware County District Attorney's Office says the Brookhaven woman withdrew money from her mother's bank account and set up credit cards in her name.
Authorities say Mongrandi then established a GoFundMe page, claiming her mother was in declining health after suffering two strokes. But police say her mother was in good health and Mongrandi stole the $1,200 she raised from the crowdfunding site.
It's unclear if she has an attorney who could comment on the charges.
