A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross a street in Palmerton Tuesday afternoon.
Palmerton Police Sgt. Christopher Ritter said police were dispatched at 4:17 p.m. to the 400 block of Delaware Avenue.Upon arrival, Ritter said police came upon Charles Cseh, 57, of Palmerton, who was complaining of injuries to his hip and leg.Ritter said the incident unfolded when the driver, David Rockel, 51, of Slatington, was operating his 2001 GMC Sierra westbound in the 400 block of Delaware Avenue.Rockel stopped to let a young girl cross from north to south, Ritter said. After the girl crossed safely, he said Rockel proceeded and did not see Cseh, who had entered the crosswalk.Ritter said Cseh was transported to Palmerton Hospital. His condition was unknown, Ritter said.He said there will not be any charges filed against Rockel, as darkness and rain may have hindered his visibility.Ritter then quoted a section of the vehicle code: "No pedestrian should suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle which is so close as to constitute a hazard."
