Nesquehoning tree lighting will be held this Saturday

Nesquehoning Lions Club is ringing in the Christmas season on Saturday as members and the public gather in St. Patrick's Cemetery for the second annual lighting of the Christmas tree. The event will be held at 6 p.m. and include a singalong of Christmas carols following the tree lighting. St. Patrick's Cemetery is located in the 100 block of West Catawissa Street, across from Turkey Hill.

The small tree, which the club planted last year in the cemetery turned veterans memorial, stands for two things - community and the remembrance of the veterans of the town.Rita Marie Trucios, a member of the Lions Club, said that everyone is welcome to join in the ceremony.Last year, the club said that the tree will grow at this location for years to come and was the shining moment during the borough's first Christmas tree lighting. It was planted at that location so families who lost loved ones while they served in the military could share in a little Christmas spirit.Following the tree lighting, all are welcome back to Meeds United Methodist Church, 126 W. Catawissa St., for light refreshments.
