Colorado man pleads to drug count

A Colorado man who was stopped along an interstate in Carbon County in January and found to have a quantity of drugs hidden in his vehicle pleaded guilty Tuesday in the county court to one count each of possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of an instrument of crime.

Douglas Walter Fanti, 72, of Silt, was stopped on Jan. 29 by state police along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township. Troopers were suspicious and conducted a consent search of the vehicle. Marijuana was found in a concealed compartment in the vehicle.A charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance was dropped. Fanti was scheduled to go on trial Monday on all the charges.On the first count, Judge Joseph J. Matika placed Fanti on probation for two years and ordered he pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation. On the drug charge, he was fined $100 and costs.
